A R E S O L U T I O N
Honoring John Groce as the 2025 MAC Coach of the Year.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to John Groce on 2
being selected as the 2025 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year 3
in men’s basketball; and 4
WHEREAS, John Groce is deserving of commendation, for in receiving 5
this richly deserved distinction, he joins the ranks of some of the 6
most illustrious and talented sports figures in the history of 7
collegiate men’s basketball. As head coach of The University of Akron 8
men’s basketball team, he amassed a regular conference 17-1 record, 9
just the second MAC team to accomplish such a feat, and led his squad 10
to win this year’s Mid-American Conference Championship title, and it 11
is fitting that he be recognized with MAC Coach of the Year honors; 12
and 13
WHEREAS, John Groce’s remarkable prowess has earned him the esteem 14
of fans and opponents alike, and we are pleased to recognize such 15
outstanding skill and sportsmanship. To his credit, he has guided the 16
Zips with unwavering expertise, always encouraging his players to push 17
forward in pursuit of victory, and his tremendous talent as a mentor 18
is reflected in their success. He can be proud that the example he has 19
set will long stand as a hallmark worthy of emulation; and 20
WHEREAS, In an educational system that seeks to teach the future 21
leaders of our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and 22
the rewards of individual and group effort, athletic competition has 23
become a valuable educational tool. With tremendous patience, John 24
Groce has coaxed admirable performances out of his players, and the 25
lessons he has imparted, both on and off the court, will undoubtedly 26

be of great benefit to them throughout their lives; therefore be it 27
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 28
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 29
salute John Groce on his recent honor and extend best wishes for the 30
future; and be it further 31
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 32
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to John Groce. 33
