Honoring the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team as the 2025 Division V State Champion.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to salute the Portsmouth High School girls 2
basketball team on winning the 2025 Division V State Championship; and 3
WHEREAS, A remarkable group of young athletes, the members of the 4
Portsmouth High School girls basketball team have combined talent and 5
spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship to establish 6
themselves as truly exceptional competitors. With admirable 7
dedication, the Lady Trojans have worked diligently toward attaining 8
ultimate proficiency in basketball, and as a result, they defeated a 9
tough Norwayne team by the score of 53-38 to win this year’s Division 10
V State Championship, their first such title in program history; and 11
WHEREAS, The Lady Trojans’ achievements and leadership are a 12
justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection on the 13
players, their families, their school, their community, and their 14
coach, Amy Hughes. In leading the team to victory, Coach Hughes has 15
not only helped the athletes to develop their talents to the fullest 16
but also instilled in them a valuable sense of determination, 17
perseverance, and camaraderie; and 18
WHEREAS, With athletic competition playing such an important role 19
in the total education of our young people, we are extremely pleased 20
to commend the exemplary athletes who comprise the Portsmouth High 21
School girls basketball team for a job well done. The maturity and 22
experience the team members have gained through their participation in 23
sports will greatly aid them in meeting the challenges of the future; 24

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General 26
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay tribute to the 27
Portsmouth High School girls basketball team on its tremendous 2024- 28
2025 season and honor all those who contributed to the success of this 29
fine squad; and be it further 30
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 31
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Portsmouth High School 32
girls basketball team. 33
