AB 1123: Commission on Teacher Credentialing: membership.
This bill amends the education code to modify the commission on teacher credentialing. The commission currently consists of 15 voting members, including the superintendent of public instruction and 14 other members. The bill would allow the governor to appoint a teacher with a commission-issued child development permit to the commission, representing licensed state-funded preschool or prekindergarten programs. The bill would also adjust the composition of the commission's public representatives. Starting January 1, 2026, the number of public representatives would be reduced from three to two, and the governor would be required to appoint an early childhood faculty member to the commission. This member would represent either early childhood or child development degree programs at California state universities or community colleges.
