AB 1378: Child welfare services: prevention services: Indian tribes.
this bill aims to improve child welfare services for indian children by providing prevention services that prevent entry into foster care. it would require agreements between the state department of social services and indian tribes to include provisions that prevent children from being placed in foster care. the bill would also provide funding to tribes to support the cost of independent legal representation for children, parents, guardians, and indian custodians in indian child custody proceedings. additionally, the state department of social services would need to develop a cost allocation plan by march 31, 2026, to support these costs.
