AB 1424: Corrections.
This bill aims to improve the working conditions and safety of workers in correctional facilities. The Division of Occupational Safety and Health must submit a rulemaking proposal by December 1, 2026, to establish occupational safety and health standards for workers in prisons and institutions under the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The department must comply with these standards and implement various measures to protect workers from heat-related illnesses, including adequate cooling systems, shade structures, temperature monitoring systems, and emergency response plans. Additionally, the department must provide annual training for staff on preventing, identifying, and managing heat-related illnesses.
