<p>This bill aims to amend the California Code of Civil Procedure to ensure media access to court proceedings. The judicial power of the state is vested in various courts, and existing law requires court sittings to be public, except as authorized.</p> <p>The bill would prohibit judicial officers, peace officers, or law enforcement officers from blocking access to open court proceedings for duly authorized representatives of news services, online news services, newspapers, radio or television stations, networks, news publishers, or court observers.</p> <p>A violation of this provision would be subject to civil penalties, as specified by the bill.</p>
