What AB 1579 does, verified August 25, 2026

This bill aims to modify the children's crisis continuum pilot program. The program requires a highly integrated continuum of care for foster youth, including a crisis residential program. The bill allows participating entities without a crisis residential program to utilize all awarded grant funds to fund other components of the continuum of care, such as a comparable type of treatment component. Grant recipients can request a grant agreement extension if they have unexpended funds and need more time to complete implementation or closeout activities. The extension is limited to the minimum amount of time necessary to complete authorized activities and must be completed by July 1, 2030.
