AB 1585: Wine labeling: “American” or “United States” appellation.

This bill amends an existing law to regulate the labeling of alcoholic beverages sold in California. It requires that wine bottles sold in the state use either a specific geographic appellation or "American" or "United States" if at least 75% of the wine is derived from US-grown grapes or agricultural products. However, starting July 1, 2027, the use of these labels is prohibited unless 100% of the wine is made from US-grown grapes or products. The bill also authorizes the state to seize any wine labeled in violation and provides for reimbursement of certain costs mandated by the state.
