This bill aims to amend the compulsory education law in California. A child must complete one year of kindergarten before being admitted to the first grade. The age requirement for admission to first grade will change over time, with the following deadlines: - For children born between July 1, 2028, and September 1, 2028, the deadline is the 2028-29 school year. - For children born between May 1, 2029, and September 1, 2029, the deadline is the 2029-30 school year. - For children born between March 1, 2030, and September 1, 2030, the deadline is the 2030-31 school year. - For children born on or before September 1, 2031, the deadline is the 2031-32 school year and each subsequent school year. The bill also requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for costs mandated by the state.
