AB 1669: Student health: medical leaves of absence: mental health.

<p>The proposed act amends existing education laws to require California's public and private postsecondary educational institutions to adopt policies allowing students to take voluntary medical leaves of absence. Starting from the 2027–28 academic year, these institutions must provide a leave period determined by the institution or up to one academic year, whichever is longer. The policy also mandates reasonable accommodations for students facing medical challenges without requiring documentation, enabling them to complete their studies and research. Additionally, the bill prohibits mandatory withdrawal notices from being required of students taking such leaves. Institutions are required to distribute these policies via email at the start of each semester or term.</p>
