This bill requires health care service plans and health insurance policies to cover scalp cooling as prescribed by a health care provider for persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Scalp cooling is a treatment to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy. The coverage must be provided starting January 1, 2027. Additionally, the Medi-Cal program, which provides health care services to low-income individuals, will also cover scalp cooling as prescribed by a health care provider. The state will not reimburse local agencies and school districts for any costs associated with implementing this new requirement.
