AB 1829: Community colleges: CalWORKs Recipients Education Program: services.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 25, 2026

What AB 1829 does, verified August 25, 2026

This bill would amend the education code to add direct aid designed to meet ongoing basic needs and services for CalWORKs recipients attending community college. The bill would also require special services to assist students in achieving economic mobility through coordinated student services offered at a community college. These services would include workstudy positions, with the option to waive the 25% employer payment requirement if the number of on-campus and off-campus positions does not decrease. The bill would impose a state-mandated local program and require the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for mandated costs if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
