AB 2012: Vehicles: transportation of manufactured homes.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 25, 2026

What AB 2012 does, verified August 25, 2026

This bill amends the vehicle code to allow for the transportation of manufactured homes on highways. The maximum allowable width for a permit is raised from 16 feet to 16 feet and 8 inches. The bill also imposes height, length, and weight limits for homes between 14 and 16 feet and 8 inches. Manufactured homes under 16 feet in width do not require a permit. The bill prohibits the department from imposing technical or prescriptive requirements that would prevent an applicant from obtaining a permit. A special permit is not required if an annual permit has been obtained. Permitted manufactured homes are exempt from pilot car requirements. The bill requires local jurisdictions to modify their approval processes and may result in state-mandated local programs.
