AB 2070: Employees: meal periods: construction industry.
This bill would amend the labor code to create an exception for employees in the construction occupation, allowing them to work for more than 5 hours without a meal break if they are on a jobsite. The bill does not provide a specific time limit for the meal break, instead allowing the employer to determine when the break should occur. The bill builds on existing laws that already provide exceptions for employees in certain occupations covered by collective bargaining agreements, and would also allow the industrial welfare commission to adopt a working condition order permitting a meal period to start after 6 hours of work if it determines it is consistent with the health and welfare of affected workers.
