AB 2109: California bar examination.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified June 11, 2026

What AB 2109 does, verified June 11, 2026

The state bar act would be amended to require the examining committee to replace the current bar examination with the national conference of bar examiners' uniform bar examination or any successor or replacement on January 1, 2029. This change aims to make the bar examination more efficient to administer and lower its administration costs. The change would not require a substantial modification of the training or preparation required for passing the examination, except with two years' notice.
