AB 2202: Pupil achievement: Closing the Achievement Gap Commission.
<p>The proposed act establishes the Closing the Achievement Gap Commission as an advisory body to the State Board of Education. The commission will consist of 17 voting members and one nonvoting member, appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate, the speaker of the Assembly, and the governor through a specified application process. Members must represent geographic, demographic, and local educational agency diversity.</p> <p>The commission is required to meet at least four times annually in its first year and as needed thereafter. It will assess gaps in state support for local educational agencies (LEAs) aiming to close achievement disparities and submit annual reports starting December 1, 2028, with recommendations and proposed actions to assist LEAs.</p> <p>The State Board of Education must consider these reports at public meetings, and the department is required to post the…
