AB 221: Tribal Nation Grant Fund.
The bill establishes a grant fund for the receipt and deposit of moneys received from Indian tribes pursuant to tribal-state gaming compacts. The fund is administered by the California Gambling Control Commission. The grant fund program allows for the discretionary distribution of funds to non-gaming and limited-gaming tribes. The program awards grants from available moneys within the fund to eligible tribes based on submitted applications. The bill revises grant distribution provisions to allow for specific distribution grants and equal shares grants. Equal shares grants are distributed to eligible tribes in equal amounts, while specific distribution grants are awarded for a specified purpose or project. The bill also removes requirements for tribes to encumber or expend grant funds within a specified period.
