AB 2225: Pupil achievement: State Education Alignment and Impact Plan.

The bill requires the California superintendent of public instruction, with approval from the executive director of the state board, to contract by July 1, 2027, with research or nonprofit organizations experienced in assessing governance structures and improving strategies to close academic achievement gaps. These organizations must convene a working group by September 1, 2027, consisting of specified members to develop a plan known as the "Closing the Achievement Gap State Operations and Support Plan." This plan is due by March 1, 2028, and should include specific goals and benchmarks for supporting school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools in closing achievement gaps. The bill also encourages the Assembly Committee on Budget and the Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review to evaluate the state's progress annually starting September 1, 2028.
