AB 2252: Building standards: residential buildings.
The bill aims to improve building standards for residential buildings in California. It requires the Department of Housing and Community Development to research and propose building standards for single-exit, single stairway multiunit residential buildings of up to 6 stories in height. These standards will be included in the next edition of the California Building Standards Code. The bill also updates the state's emergency standard provision, allowing cities and counties to establish more restrictive building standards for residential units under certain conditions. This provision will not apply to single-exit, single stairway multiunit residential buildings of up to 6 stories in height.
