AB 2462: Unsafe products: disposal: penalties.
This bill aims to improve public safety by strengthening product safety standards. It would redefine what constitutes a manufacturer, requiring them to provide safe disposal or recycling of unsafe products at no cost to consumers or retailers. The bill would also increase penalties for non-compliance, allowing the Department of Resources to impose daily penalties of up to $5,000 for intentional or knowing violations. Additionally, the bill would establish separate accounts to fund enforcement efforts and provide for the disposal of hazardous waste. The bill would also allow the Department of Toxic Substances Control to handle the enforcement of hazardous waste recalls.
