AB 2598: Health care facilities: notification of next of kin.

What AB 2598 does, verified August 25, 2026

This bill would require a hospital or convalescent hospital to notify any known next of kin of a person's death if the person dies in the facility. If the facility cannot find the next of kin, it must notify the public administrator of the county where the facility is located. The facility would be liable for a civil penalty of up to $50,000 if it fails to notify the next of kin. The penalty would be assessed after notice and an opportunity to be heard.
