AB 299: Motels, hotels, and short-term lodging: disasters.

This bill adds and repeals a section of the civil code to regulate tenancy. It excludes occupancy at a hotel or motel if the stay is 30 days or less. The bill changes the procedure for evicting a tenant in a disaster situation. If a guest resided in a lodging as a result of a disaster that made their prior housing uninhabitable, their continued occupancy would not be considered a new tenancy until they have resided in the lodging for 270 days. This change applies to guests who are residing in the lodging due to a disaster. The bill takes effect immediately.
