This bill aims to protect students with moral objections to animal dissection by providing alternative assignments or assessments. If a student chooses not to participate in an assignment involving animal dissection, the teacher must offer an alternative. The student's grades cannot be negatively impacted for refusing to participate. The teacher must provide the student with information about the chemicals used to preserve animals and sourcing information from the vendor or provider of the animals. Written notice must be given to students about their rights, including the option to refuse animal dissection and the complaint procedures. By the start of the 2026-27 school year, the state education department must develop a template for this written notice, which will be made available on its website.
