AB 483: Fixed term installment contracts: early termination fees.
What AB 483 does, verified December 7, 2025
This bill prohibits a seller from charging a fee to a consumer who terminates a fixed term installment contract unless the fee is clearly disclosed at the time of entering the initial contract. The bill limits the early termination fee to 30% of the total sum for which the consumer is obligated under the contract. Certain broadband internet providers are exempt from these provisions. The bill also applies to home improvement contracts and waiving its provisions is considered void and unenforceable.
