AB 1985: Student health: athletic coaches and trainers: mental health training.

This bill aims to improve mental health training for athletic coaches in postsecondary educational institutions. The Surgeon General is required to establish minimum standards for mental health training programs and compile a list of approved programs by July 1, 2027. Postsecondary institutions must then require coaches to complete a student mental health training approved by the Surgeon General as a condition of employment or volunteer service. The bill also requires the Surgeon General to provide mental health training for coaches, and reimbursement for mandated costs will be made according to state mandate reimbursement procedures.
