AB 594: Student health insurance.

This bill aims to amend the insurance code to make student health insurance coverage considered individual health insurance coverage. It requires students to have health insurance coverage, starting from policy years 2024, and allows them to terminate their coverage if they graduate, take a leave of absence, or are no longer enrolled at the institution of higher education. The student must request termination at least 30 days before the effective date, and the institution must terminate coverage within the same calendar month if feasible. The student can pay only the premium through the date of termination. The bill also allows students to waive student health insurance coverage if they have minimum essential coverage, and prohibits charging the student a fee or premium if the waiver is granted.
