AB 6: Residential developments: building standards: review.
This bill requires the Department of Housing and Community Development to research and consider amendments to state building standards to allow residential developments with 3-10 units to be built under the California Residential Code. The department must convene a working group by December 31, 2026, to identify and recommend changes to building standards. If the report identifies needed changes, the department will research, develop, and propose the standards for adoption by the commission. The department must also review construction cost pressures for single-family and multifamily residential construction and provide its findings to the legislature by December 31, 2026. The review will be performed every 3 years to revise or update standards to reduce construction costs.
