AB 602: Public postsecondary education: student behavior: drug and alcohol use: rehabilitation programs.
This bill requires the regents of the University of California and the trustees of the California State University to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of the campus community when adopting rules and regulations governing student behavior. The entities must adopt rules that prohibit students receiving medical treatment for the personal use of drugs or alcohol from being subject to disciplinary action if they complete an appropriate rehabilitation program. Additionally, students who receive medical treatment in violation of the rules must be offered the chance to complete the rehabilitation program. This prohibition on disciplinary action only applies once per academic semester, quarter, or term.
