AB 701: Corrections: solitary confinement.
This bill aims to conduct a comprehensive study on the use of solitary confinement in all detention facilities in California. The study will collect data on each instance of solitary confinement during the first 9 months of 2026, including the time and date it began and ended, the facility, and the stated basis for confinement. Detention facilities will be required to report this data to the department. The study's findings will be reported to the legislature and the governor by November 1, 2026. The bill also requires reimbursement for costs mandated by the state, if the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
