AB 846: Endangered species: incidental take: wildfire preparedness activities.

This bill authorizes local agencies to submit wildfire preparedness plans to minimize impacts on wildlife and habitat for candidate, threatened, and endangered species in fire hazard severity zones. The plans must include information on the planned activities, dates, and affected species. A fee will be imposed on local agencies for reviewing their plans. If sufficient information is provided, the department will notify the agency within 90 days if an incidental take permit is needed or if there are exemptions or streamlined pathways. The department will provide guidance on measures to avoid, minimize, and mitigate the impact on endangered species. A standard wildfire preparedness plan submission form will be made publicly available on the department's website by July 1, 2026. Annual summaries of submitted plans will be posted on the department's website starting January 1, 2027.
