SB 1067: Pupil instruction: math assessments.

The bill aims to improve math instruction for students in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2. It requires the state board of education to create a list of evidence-based, culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate screening instruments to assess pupils for math difficulties. The list must be approved by an independent panel of experts by January 31, 2028. Local educational agencies must adopt one or more screening instruments from the list by June 30, 2028, and use them to assess pupils for math difficulties starting from the 2028-29 school year. Pupils' parents or guardians can opt out of the screening in writing. The local agencies must report the number and percentage of pupils identified as experiencing math difficulties to the state department of education by July 15, 2029, and annually thereafter.
