SB 1071: Death certificates.
This bill would add a new chapter to the California Health and Safety Code. It would allow a family member of the deceased to request a new death certificate if the manner of death is determined by a court to be different from what was stated on the existing certificate. The request must be supported by a certified copy of the court record. The state registrar would review the request and issue a new death certificate if the conditions are met. The new certificate would supplant any previously issued certificate for the deceased person. The local registrar would be required to transmit copies of the previously issued certificate to the state registrar.
