What SB 1230 does, verified August 15, 2026

This bill aims to increase penalties for illegal dumping of waste matter and commercial quantities of waste. The fines for dumping waste matter will be increased to $1,500-$3,000 for the second conviction and $3,000-$5,000 for the third and subsequent convictions. The fines for dumping commercial quantities of waste will be increased to $6,000-$10,000 for the second conviction and $10,000-$15,000 for the third and subsequent convictions. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery to act as a lead state agency to address illegal dumping and create an internet website with resources to help cities and counties combat, prevent, and clean up illegal dumping.
