SB 1387: State agencies: collection and reporting of demographic data: Jewish identity.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 22, 2026

What SB 1387 does, verified August 22, 2026

This bill aims to amend state agencies' demographic data collection and reporting requirements. It would require state agencies to collect and report demographic data on Jewish identity, in addition to existing categories. The data must be collected using separate categories and tabulations for Jewish ancestry or ethnicity. The data will be included in annual demographic reports and made available to the public, except for personal identifying information. Existing laws requiring data collection on racial and ethnic origins will be updated to include Jewish identity. The bill also makes legislative findings to justify limiting access to meetings of public bodies and writings of public officials and agencies.
