SB 1392: Smog check: exemption: collector motor vehicles.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 21, 2026

What SB 1392 does, verified August 21, 2026

The bill amends existing laws regarding the smog check program in California by redefining a "collector motor vehicle" to include vehicles at least 35 years old used primarily for shows, parades, charitable functions, and historical exhibitions, but not as primary transportation. It exempts collector vehicles manufactured before the 1981 model year from biennially obtaining a certificate of compliance or noncompliance. This exemption will extend by one model year each year until it covers vehicles made before the 1986 model year starting in 2032.
