SB 289: Postsecondary education: Gender and Sex Discrimination Educational Oversight Office.
The bill would establish a statewide gender and sex discrimination educational oversight office. This office would serve as a point of contact for students dissatisfied with their campus-based policies or investigative procedures related to harassment, rape, sexual assault, and violence. The office would receive complaints from students regarding noncompliance with Title IX and investigate campus-based policies and procedures. It would also receive annual reports on incidents of harassment, rape, sexual assault, and violence and make recommendations to the Attorney General, district attorney, or city attorney. The governing boards of community college districts, the California State University, independent postsecondary educational institutions, and the University of California would submit annual reports to the office.
