SB 38: Second Chance Program.
This bill aims to expand the Second Chance Program to support individuals in the criminal justice system with mental health and substance use issues. The program will now allow for proposals that offer mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and misdemeanor diversion programs to be eligible for funding. This change will help reduce recidivism rates among individuals with these issues. The bill also makes an appropriation to support the expanded program. Additionally, it will allow for the inclusion of drug court and collaborative court programs in the grant program, providing more options for individuals to receive treatment and support.
