SB 671: Pedestrian crossing signals.
This bill aims to amend the vehicle code to improve pedestrian safety. The bill requires traffic-actuated signals to have a leading pedestrian interval and include accessible pedestrian signals. These signals must comply with California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The bill also requires touch-free accessible pedestrian signals at new signalized pedestrian crossings on certain projects. Existing state-owned or -operated traffic signals must be identified and recorded in the Department of Transportation management system inventory database, and leading pedestrian intervals must be implemented at these locations. Local agencies are required to report the implementation of leading pedestrian intervals at their operated signals.
