SB 72: The California Water Plan: long-term supply targets.
This bill revises the California Water Plan to require a more comprehensive approach to meeting the state's future water needs. The plan must consider the needs of all beneficial uses, including urban, agricultural, tribal, and environmental uses, and ensure safe drinking water for all Californians. The bill expands the membership of the advisory committee to include tribes, labor, and environmental justice interests. The plan must include a discussion of the estimated costs, benefits, and impacts of recommended projects and actions. Public workshops will be conducted to allow interested parties to comment on the plan. The department must report on the plan's updates, including amendments, supplements, and additions, to the legislature. The plan must be updated every 5 years, with the next update due in 2033.
