SB 82: Contracts: consumer goods and services: dispute resolution provisions.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 7, 2025

What SB 82 does, verified December 7, 2025

This bill adds a new section to the civil code that regulates contracts for consumer goods and services. It limits dispute resolution terms and conditions to the use, payment, or provision of the good, service, money, or credit provided by the contract. The bill makes these provisions void and unenforceable if they waive a consumer's right to make a statement or file a complaint with a licensing board. The provisions are intended to protect consumers and are to be liberally construed. The duties and obligations imposed by the bill are cumulative and do not limit or expand any other laws or rights.
