SB 850: Prisons.
This bill aims to protect public employees who work in prisons from having their retirement benefits forfeited due to certain crimes. It specifically targets correctional officers who are convicted of sexually assaulting an inmate, requiring them to forfeit all retirement benefits. The bill also requires the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to make improvements to prison facilities, including constructing a new building at the Central California Women's Facility with additional single-cell housing units. Additionally, the department must install fixed cameras and thermal sensor cameras to enhance security and track inmate movements. The bill also eliminates solo shifts for correctional officers in women's state prison facilities.
