What A 10681 does, verified March 22, 2026

The bill aims to prevent lead exposure in school drinking water through the implementation of certified point-of-use filtration systems. School districts and boards of cooperative educational services must identify and address elevated risk areas for lead exposure, which can be due to old plumbing systems, lead service lines, or corrosion. Certified point-of-use lead-removal filtration devices must meet NSF/ANSI standard 53 and be maintained according to a written schedule. Schools must also provide public notice to parents, guardians, and staff about the use of these filtration systems. The bill requires the department of health and the department of education to issue guidance on approved devices, maintenance procedures, and testing protocols. The law will take effect on July 1, and the departments will promulgate rules and regulations for implementation by that date.
