A 3253: Provides for when the department may limit the census of persons with a serious mental illness residing in an adult home.
The bill aims to improve the care and living conditions of individuals with serious mental illness residing in adult homes. The adult home must be a not-for-profit corporation operated by an organization that provides a continuum of housing and residential services. The home must assess residents periodically and address their needs by fostering independent living skills, ensuring access to quality mental health services, encouraging community involvement, and creating a homelike atmosphere. The bill also establishes a definition of "persons with serious mental illness" based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision. The changes take effect immediately.
