What S 3210 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to allow access to juvenile delinquency records for the purpose of conducting background checks on individuals under 22 years old who are attempting to purchase firearms. Currently, records of juvenile delinquency are not accessible to the authorities conducting these background checks. This law seeks to change this by allowing the records to be shared with the commissioner of mental health, the attorney general, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and the division of state police. This change is intended to enhance public safety by providing authorities with more comprehensive information when conducting background checks on individuals who are under 22 years old and attempting to purchase firearms.
