AB 1009: Teacher credentialing: administrative services credential: occupational and physical therapists.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 7, 2025

What AB 1009 does, verified December 7, 2025

The bill proposes to amend the education code to allow the possession of a valid occupational therapy or physical therapy license to satisfy the minimum requirements for a preliminary services credential with a specialization in administrative services. However, a preliminary services credential issued based on one of these licenses would not authorize supervision or evaluation of teachers, except in specified circumstances. The bill increases the required minimum experience for this credential to 5 years and adds experience as a school-based occupational therapist or physical therapist as a means to satisfy that requirement. Additionally, a school district, county office of education, or charter school can request a waiver of up to 2 years of experience for a candidate who meets specific criteria.
