AB 1249: Early voting: satellite locations.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 6, 2025

What AB 1249 does, verified December 6, 2025

This bill aims to expand early voting options for registered voters. It allows voters to cast their vote by mail ballots at the office of the elections official or satellite locations, starting no later than 29 days before the election. For statewide elections, counties must provide at least one early voting location on the Saturday before the election that is open for at least 6 hours. The location must allow voters to return their vote by mail ballots, register to vote, receive and vote provisional ballots, and receive replacement ballots. The bill also eliminates the requirement to use a voter identification envelope when voting at satellite locations and the need for a news release to inform the public about satellite locations.
