What AB 1409 does, verified February 3, 2026

This bill would amend the vehicle code to expand the intermodal roadability inspection program to apply to port terminals, which are ocean marine terminals or other terminals within a port master plan area. A port terminal would be required to conduct the inspection program in lieu of other provisions, which would include verifying the roadability of container connecting devices, mud flaps, landing legs, and frame damage. The inspection would also require verification that other specified inspections are current. Defects noted on an intermodal chassis would need to be repaired before transporting an intermodal container on an intermodal chassis. The port terminal would be required to retain inspection records for six months. If the port terminal fails reinspection, it would be required to conduct additional terminal inspections at 30-day intervals until it is in full compliance with the…
