AB 1852: Kern Medical Education Authority.

The bill aims to establish a medical school in Kern County, California. If a University of California school of medicine has not been established by July 1, 2027, the Kern Medical Education Authority will be authorized to establish a school of medicine in collaboration with California State University, Bakersfield, and the Kern Community College District. The authority will be governed by a board of governors and will have the power to hire employees, establish salary schedules, and provide benefits comparable to those offered by the California State University system. The authority will also be subject to the Ralph M. Brown Act and the California Public Records Act, with certain exemptions related to trade secrets.
