What AB 1858 does, verified August 15, 2026

The bill requires the chancellor of the California State University (CSU) to establish a pilot program offering an associate degree in general education studies jointly conferred by a CSU campus and a community college or independent institution. This is for former CSU students who have completed coursework equivalent to an associate degree but did not previously earn one. The bill mandates that CSU, Long Beach participate and allows the chancellor to include other CSU campuses. By January 1, 2032, the chancellor must submit a report evaluating the program's effectiveness. The provisions become inoperative on June 30, 2032, and are repealed as of January 1, 2033.
