AB 2006: State government: office buildings: daycare centers.

This bill requires the state to prioritize licensed child care providers when constructing, acquiring, or renovating office buildings that can accommodate state employees. The state must give priority to these providers when they seek to use a part of the space as a day care center, subject to terms and conditions set by the Director of General Services. The state will not charge rent to these providers if they are nonprofit entities and accept subsidies. The Director may also secure other space for day care centers if funds are available and certain conditions exist. Existing office buildings can be retrofitted to accommodate day care centers if state funds are available. Day care centers must comply with local and state safety building codes. The bill excludes office buildings used for patient, inmate, or ward care.
